Waite Lifts Marauders to Win Over West Chester

Box Score Millersville, Pa. - Millersville women's soccer freshman Elizabeth Waite only took one shot on Saturday afternoon against West Chester, but it was all the Marauders needed as Waite's target was drilled into the back of the net and gave the Marauders a 1-0 win over the Golden Rams.

In a near perfect replica of Millersville's (6-5-1, 5-4-1 PSAC) 1-0 win over West Chester (8-4, 7-4 PSAC) last year, the Marauders defense was stout and the offense did just enough to take home a victory on Saturday afternoon.

West Chester outshot Millersville 17-3 and had a 9-1 edge in corner kicks, but were not able to break through the Black and Gold back line.

2012's goal scorer against the Golden Rams, Megan Kelley, helped out in a different way this year. In the 58th minute, Kelley ran down cross on the left sideline and played the ball back into the middle where Waite was waiting.

Waite fired a one-time shot into the lower left corner of the goal and netted the game winner 13-minutes into the second half. It was the freshman's second goal of the year and helped end a five-game skid for the home team.

Goalkeeper Olivia Webber played one of her best games of the season in the cage. Despite making only five saves, Webber made countless stops and seemed to snatch every West Chester cross out of the air. Over the past two years the Golden Rams have only been shutout three times, two of those are thanks to Webber.

The victory over West Chester is Millersville's second in a row against the Purple and Gold. Prior to last season, the Marauders had not won against the Golden Rams in 12 tries.

The win also ends West Chester's seven game winning streak.

Millersville will next play Bloomsburg at home on Wednesday. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.
