MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - In their final regular-season matchup, the Millersville women's soccer team fell to Shepherd by a score of 2–1.
A first-round bye was on the line tonight as Millersville entered the match ranked fourth in the standings, while Shepherd sat in third. The winner of the contest would clinch the No. 3 seed in the PSAC East.
Millersville showed promise in the early minutes, controlling possession in Shepherd's defensive half. Elvira Remstam recorded the first shot for the Marauders, delivering a strong strike directly at the Rams' goalkeeper, who made the save.
At the seven-minute mark, Shepherd struck first, breaking through the Marauder back line and creating an open look on goal to take a 1–0 lead. The Rams built on that momentum, maintaining control of possession deep in Millersville's territory. Their pressure paid off 20 minutes later, as Shepherd converted on a corner kick to extend its lead to 2–0.
Ten minutes later, Millersville responded when Aubrey Strohecker connected with Lia Francis, who delivered a precise one-touch shot into the top right corner of the net to cut the deficit to one. Shepherd had a chance to answer late in the half but was unable to capitalize. The first half concluded with Shepherd holding a 2–1 advantage.
The second half mirrored the early stages of the first, with Shepherd controlling the pace of play. Millersville began to find its rhythm ten minutes in, creating multiple scoring opportunities that did not result in shots on goal. Physicality increased as both teams committed several fouls.
Millersville earned its first corner kick of the night with 20 minutes remaining. The initial cross was punched away by the Rams' goalkeeper, resulting in another corner attempt. The Marauders sent the second ball into the box but were unable to capitalize on the opportunity.
As the final minutes approached, Millersville continued to apply pressure but was unable to break through the Shepherd back line. The match concluded with Shepherd securing a 2–1 victory. The Marauders finished the regular season with a 7-6-3 record.
With the result, Millersville will face Bloomsburg in the first round of the PSAC Tournament at 1 p.m. The winner of Saturday's match will advance to the quarterfinals to take on Slippery Rock on the campus of West Chester University.
