Box Score Millersville, Pa. - Junior
Senada Mehmedovic faced an unfamiliar situation against Slippery Rock. She was coming off the bench for the first time this season but still led the Marauders' women's basketball team with 15 points and six steals en route to a 68-39 win over the visiting Rock Friday evening.
Mehmedovic came into the game early in the first half and provided an instant spark for head coach
Mary Fleig. In a span of three and a half minutes Mehmedovic tallied four points, four steals and two assists. When the junior guard entered the game, Millersville (8-2, 5-1 PSAC) was trailing by four points. When she exited four minutes later the Marauders were holding an eight point lead, and they would not relinquish the lead for the rest of the game.
Slippery Rock (2-8, 1-5 PSAC) recieved a team high eight points from freshman Erica Aiello. Emilee Vitez led the Rock with five boards, and senior Erin Cunningham added three steals.
A layup by senior
Aurielle Mosley at the 6:42 mark in the first frame pushed the home team's lead to 10 points and ignited a run of eight-straight points. Mosley and reigning PSAC East Freshman of the Week
Celeste Robinson each scored four of the eight points by the Marauders.
Robinson's layup with 51 seconds left in the first half gave Millersville a 33-16 lead at the half. Mosley lead all scorers at the break with 10 points. Mehmedovic recorded five steals in the first period which led to the Marauders outscoring the Rock 18-4 on points off turnovers and 10-0 on fast break points.
Coach Fleig did not let her team slow down despite holding a 17 point advantage at the break. Millersville went on a 9-2 run to increase its lead to 24 points just five minutes into the final period. After Mehmedovic drained a three pointer, Robinson ran off with six-straight points to cap the run for the home team.
The Marauders stretched their lead to 34 points with under five minutes to play after a jumper by freshman Ashley Spence.
Mehmodivic, a Carlisle native, finished the second half with 11 points and recorded twice as many steals (6) against the Rock as she had in any other game this season. Robinson also ended the game with a career-high 15 points while adding three steals and two assists. Mosley recorded her third double-double of the season scoring 14 points and talling 10 boards.
Millersville has now won five-straight games against Slippery Rock and have taken nine of the past 10 meetings.
The Marauders have a quick turnaround as they face the two-time defending PSAC Champion Edinboro Saturday. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
