MATCH NOTES
·
Millersville opens its home dual schedule Saturday against perennial regional power Pitt-Johnstown. UPJ is led by longtime coach Pat Pecora, who has led the program for 36 years. He's won 20 NCAA regional titles and has coached 134 All-Americans. Currently, UPJ is 3-2 and ranked No. 11 in Division II. It boasts wins over nationally-ranked Kutztown (24-17) and nationally-ranked East Stroudsburg (34-6). The lone loss was to No. 8 Findlay.
· It is only the second dual of the season for Millersville. The Marauders fell 23-18 to now-No. 19 Shippensburg on Nov. 28. The outcome may have been different had freshman Austin Wenzlaff been healthy at 165 pounds. Wenzlaff has battled some health issues this year, suffering a concussion after winning his first two matches at the ESU Open. He also won three matches at last week's Wilkes Open before having to medically forfeit the rest of the tournament. He is
· Along with Wenzlaff, the strength of Millersville's lineup is in the back end. Against Shippensburg, the Marauders won at 184, 197 and 285. Zach Pincus placed sixth at the PSAC Championships at 174 as well.
· In the most recently released regional rankings, Wenzlaff remained No. 6, and heavyweight Brad Ladd moved into the rankings at No. 6. Seven of UPJ's wrestlers in the probable lineup are ranked regionally. 133-pound Dave Fogle and 184-pound Travis McKillop are No. 1 in their respective weight classes. At last week's Wilkes Open, Gary Lantz and McKillop won individual titles and five other UPJ wrestlers placed in the top five.
