Diplomats Down Marauders in Crosstown Dual

Millersville, Pa. - In a battle between crosstown rivals, Franklin & Marshall edged out Millersville's women's swimming team by a score of 123-81 on Saturday afternoon.

Junior Adriana Rodriguez and freshman Grace Magerr each recorded career personal best times on the day in the 200-yard IM and 1,000-yard freestyle, respectively. Rodriguez swam the 200 IM in 2:24.49 and placed fourth overall in the event. Magerr took sixth place in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a finish of 11:49.61. Jaime Cessna swam the Marauders top time in the 1,000-yard freestyle when she touched the wall at 11:08.41 and placed third while finishing 41 seconds faster than her best time of the season.

Millersville (2-4) got off to a quick start as the Marauders won the first event of the day, the 400-yard Medley relay, with a time of 4:08.16. In the fifth event senior Sarah Bernhardt took first place in the 50-yard freestyle with a PSAC qualifying time of 25.05. Teammate Brigid Kavanaugh touched the wall just behind Bernhardt to take second place with a finish of 26.10.

The Marauders again finished one-two in the 100-yard freestyle with Bernhardt taking the top spot, a PSAC qualifying time of 54.06. Junior Amanda Thomas finished in 56.07 to round out the two best times in the 100-yard freestyle.

Freshman Janelle Laudermilch also finished first in her event, the 200-yard breaststroke. Laudermilch swam more than four seconds faster than the closest competitor and touched the wall in 2:33.21.

The Marauders, who have now lost four straight dual meets, aim to get back on track on Tuesday when they host PSAC opponent Kutztown in their final home meet of the season. Millersville is 6-18 all-time against the Golden Bears and will try and avenge a 74-120 loss to Kutztown a year ago.The meet is set to begin at 2 p.m.
