
Marauders Sweep Through Day One of Mount Olive Invitational

Mount Olive, N.C. - The Millersville women's volleyball team made quick work of its competition on the opening day of the Mount Olive Invitational. The Marauders evened their record on the season by sweeping both UNC Pembroke and Saint Augustine's.
After opening the season 0-3, the Marauders have now won three in a row. In Friday's opener, Millersville topped UNC Pembroke 25-22, 25-19, 25-17. Millersville rolled past Saint Augustine's in the nightcap by a 25-11, 25-9, 25-13 count.
Six different Marauders recorded at least five kills against Pembroke. The team hit .245 and was dominant at the net, totaling 17 block assists and two block solos.
The tone was set in the opening set with the Marauders piling up 15 kills to four errors. Despite the impressive offensive production, Millersville held a slight 22-21 lead late. The Marauders picked up a point on a Pembroke attack error then closed the set with kills from Taylor Smith and Kayla Wallace.
Millersville roared to a 12-4 set in the second set, but Pembroke closed the gap and tied it at 13-13 with a run of its own. Katie Pisano put Millersville back on track with a kill ,and Millersville expanded the lead and pulled away, closing the set on a Katie Lesinski kill.
The Marauders cruised in the third set. After building a 14-7 lead, the Marauders never led by fewer than four the rest of the way.
A balanced offensive attack led the Marauders against Saint Augustine's. The team hit a solid .267 and was led by seven kills from Lesinski, six from Katelyn Ort. Ort committed just one error on 13 swings. Alicia Kucey delivered five kills on nine swings for a team-best .556 hitting percentage.
Emily Kaledas and Wallace led the Marauders with five blocks. Jessica Franz totaled a team-high 18 assists and three service aces.
Franz led the way with 18 assists. Sue Caramanico totaled a team-best 20 digs, and Brooklyn Smith tallied a career-high six service aces to go with 13 digs.
The Marauders took full advantage of Saint Augustine's offensive struggles as it hit -.051 with 20 hitting errors and four service errors.
Millersville never trailed in any of the three sets and led the first set 8-0 before allowing a point.
Millersville continues play at the invitational Saturday.
