Pueblo, Colo. – In the final race of her tremendous Marauder career, Elicia Anderson placed 16th in the 5,000-meter run at the NCAA Championships Saturday night with a time of 18:30.68.
Running in Pueblo, Colorado for the second time in three nights, Anderson was looking for one more All-America nod, but could not place in the top eight. She believes the weather conditions and the fact that both distance events were run within two days of each other were a hindrance to not only her, but also the entire field of runners.
“It was extremely windy,” Anderson said. “Watching all the other races, it was a sit and kick. It is a hard double, especially in these conditions.” The altitude also loomed large in all three days of competition for the runners, and Anderson said that without the proper time to adapt, it took its toll on the women in the race.
Kristen McGlynn of Adams State won the NCAA Championship with a time of 17:46.05. The only other PSAC runner in the race was Shippensburg's Katrina Spratford, who placed 12th with a time of 18:16.04.
The Eastern York High School product concludes her career as a three-time All-American and six-time All-PSAC honoree as well as holding school records in five total events. She was appreciative of the opportunity, saying, “My career here at Millersville was more than I ever expected.
“I have grown so much not only as a runner but also as a person and had so much support from so many people,” said Anderson. “I am so thankful and blessed for the experience running has given me.”
