East Stroudsburg, Pa. – Millersville scored six runs on five hits in the third inning of game two for an 8-5 victory and split of the doubleheader with East Stroudsburg on Friday. The Warriors took game one by a score of 10-4.
Millersville (23-20, 11-11 PSAC) took a 2-1 lead through two innings in the second affair after opening with two runs in the first inning. The Marauders then opened up the game up in the third.
Senior
Mike August led off the third inning with a walk and then stole second base to get into scoring position.
Zach Stone drove in the inning's first run with an RBI single to left field to score August from second base. Stone then moved to second in a fielding error by the outfielder.
East Stroudsburg's (24-16, 8-10 PSAC) skipper saw enough from starter Colin Taylor after putting the Warriors down 3-1 and elected to replace him with Keith Moyer. Things did not go much better for Moyer.
Dan Johnson, Moyer's first batter faced, singled to drive home Stone. Redshirt freshman
Kurt Seiders tripled to the gap in left-center field to increase the Millersville lead to 5-1 with no outs still in the third.
Chris Edgar doubled to score Seiders before the first out of the inning was recorded.
David Pine walked and a passed ball put Edgar on third for runners at the corners. Pine then stole second base to with two outs after a pair of strikeouts.
A wild pitched by Moyer scored Edgar and moved Pine to third.
Evan King drove home his first RBI of the game to give the Marauders an 8-1 lead. August, who started the inning with a walk, ended the inning with a fly-out to left field.
East Stroudsburg respond with three runs in the bottom half of the inning and another in the fourth.
Millersville's game-two starter
Tad Barton (5-1) held off the Warriors with six complete innings of work to earn his fifth win of the season.
Tyler Horst came in the seventh to earn his fifth save of the season.
In game one, East Stroudsburg scored early and often to force out
Brooks Rothschild (6-4), Millersville's game-one starter, after just an inning and a third of work. The Warriors put up seven runs on eight hits for a 7-2 lead before
Mike McMonagle came in as relief.
Carlos Medina had led off the top of the second inning with a solo home run to put Millersville on the board.
Jeff Heisey then singled to drive home Seiders to cut the Warriors' lead to 3-2 before East Stroudsburg's big second inning.
East Stroudsburg extended its lead to 10-3 in the fifth before the Marauders had another run cross the plate in the top of the sixth to hold on for a 10-4 game-one victory.
Millersville will host the Warriors in a doubleheader tomorrow at Marauder Park starting at 1 p.m. The Marauders will be honoring their eight seniors in between games. They will also be hosting Kunzler Dollar Dog Day, honoring its alumni and Solanco Little League. As part of the festivities, the program will recognize the 1982 PSAC East Championship squad.
