Baseball Falls Short of No. 18 Kutztown Twice

Game 1 | Game 2

Kutztown, Pa. - No. 18 Kutztown jumped on visiting Millersville early and helf off the Marauders late in both games of Friday's doubleheader. Millersville was limited to three hits in a 6-2 opener loss, and in a game two, 6-5 loss, the go-ahead run was stranded on base.

Millersville (14-14, 2-8 PSAC East) has now lost six consecutive PSAC East games for the first time since the 2008 club opened 0-6. That team, however, went on to win the division with a 12-8 record.

Millersville stranded 12 total runners on base in the doubleheader and three errors led to five unearned runs. The starting pitching didn't last long. Brooks Rothschild (5-2), who had won his first five starts of the season, has now lost two in a row. He exited game one after allowing six runs--five earned--in three innings. Brian Black (0-5) last 2.2 innings and allowed six runs, two of which were earned. Kutztown scored all 12 of its runs in the first three innings.

In game one, Millersville was stymied by Dominick Ruscitti (5-1). He allowed two hits and a walk over six innings before giving way to J.R Seader in the seventh. Both of Millersville's runs came off of Seader on a two-run single from pinch hitter Carlos Medina.

Millersville jumped out to a quick lead in game two, scoring two runs in the top of the first off of a two-run blast from Medina. But in the bottom of the inning, Kutztown roared right back and took the lead with three runs. In the inning, Shayne Houck singled to set Kutztown's career hits record. All three runs in the inning came with two outs.

In the third, Kutztown opened a 6-2 lead. Houck led off the inning with a double, but a Millersville error paved the way to three-run, four-hit inning. Millersville got one back in the fourth on a RBI double from Ryan Chesler, and the Marauders pulled within one run in the seventh when Mike August singled home a pair.

Dan Johnson reached on a fielder's choice, and Zach Stone singled, putting runners on first and second with two outs. Chris Edgar grounded into a fielder's choice, putting the tying run 90 feet away. Jason Henderson was able to nail down his third save of the season, however, by getting Kurt Seiders to fly out.

Evan King, August and Johnson all had two hits in game two. Millersville out-hit Kutztown 11-8 but stranded seven.

Millersville looks to end its skid Saturday at home against Kutztown. The doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
