Baseball Bombs Cal in Game One; Blanked in Game Two

Game 1 | Game 2

Washington, Pa. - Millersville used three home runs and dominating effort from Brooks Rothschild to roll past California (Pa.) 9-1 in game one of Saturday's doubleheader. California struck early in game two, though, and held on to salvage a split by blanking the Marauders, 6-0.

In the opener, Millersville (6-3) received homers from Chris Edgar, Dan Johnson and Zach Stone. It was a 0-0 score in the third when Edgar hit an opposite field blast to get Millersville on the board. Johnson followed in the fourth with a solo shot to give the Marauders a two-run lead.

Cal (6-4) picked up a run off of Rothschild in the fourth, but Millersville erupted for six runs in the sixth. Mike August led off with a double, and Stone followed with a two-run blast. A Cal error opened the door to four more Millersville runs.

Stone drove in two runs, and Edgar and Kurt Seiders plated two. Seiders' first career hit came in the sixth with the bases loaded. Johnson scored three times.

Rothschild, the reigning PSAC East Pitcher of the Week, improved to 3-0 in three starts. He pitched a complete game, allowing just one run on four hits and a walk.

Kyle Petty (3-0) kept Millersville's bats in check in the nightcap. He dealt Millersville its first shutout since March 18, 2011. He went the full seven innings and allowed just four hits and a walk.

Mike McMonagle (0-1) couldn't escape the first inning. The first four Vulcans reached base on either a hit or was hit by a pitch. Joey Borelli hit a three-run homer to boost the lead to 6-0. Two more players reached base before McMonagle was pulled in favor of Brian Black.

Black escaped the inning with a strikeout and went on to throw four shutout innings. Millersville's offense couldn't muster a comeback, though. Johnson, Stone, Edgar and Evan King all managed one hit.

Millersville travels to Philadelphia University on Tuesday for a nine inning game.
