Millersville, Pa. – Thursday, the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association released its Division II All-Region awards for the 2011-12 indoor track & field season. Among the 1,012 athletes that were recognized by the USTFCCCA, Millersville had three honorees in Zach Kohler, James McBride and Elicia Anderson.
The top five finishers from each region in individual events and each member of a relay ranked in the region's top three have earned the all-region distinction for the 2012 indoor season. A total of 1,476 awards were given to the 1,012 athletes, with some winners qualifying in more than one event.
Kohler qualified for all-region honors in the heptathlon with his performance in the PSAC Championships, where he finished with 4,666 points and a fourth-place finish. Kohler, a senior, set season bests in two events of the heptathlon (1,000-meter run, high jump) last weekend.
McBride won his award in the 5,000-meter run. The junior won the event in the PSAC Championships with a time of 14:45.66, the best run of the season by any Marauder in the event. The Wrightsville native was the first men's indoor PSAC champion for Millersville since the 2003-04 season, when Dan Ober won the pentathlon.
Anderson, the lone representative from the women's team, was recognized as an All-Region performer in the 5,000-meter run as well. Anderson's second-place finish in the event at the PSAC Championships came in a time of 17:09.68. The Eastern York High School graduate will be the only Marauder from either the men or women's indoor teams to compete in the NCAA Indoor National Championships at Mankato, Minn. on March 9-10.
Millersville's outdoor track & field season starts one week later, with the Shamrock Invitational from March 15-17 in Conrad, S.C.
