Marauders Can’t Overcome First Half Deficit at Bloomsburg

Box Score Bloomsburg, Pa. – The Millersville women's basketball team found itself in a large halftime deficit at Bloomsburg much like the Huskies' faced at Millersville on Feb. 1. The Marauders, however, were unable to make a second half comeback at Nelson Field House to fall 73-60 on Saturday.

Bloomsburg (24-4, 18-4 PSAC) opened the game on a 17-0 run over the first six minutes of the game. The Huskies' shot 6-of-7 from the field, 4-of-4 from the foul line, during the run.  Lauren Ellis led the charge with 10 points, including the first six.

Millersville (16-10, 13-8 PSAC) struggled from the opening tip missing its first 10 shots and turning the ball over six times. The Marauders scored their first basket at the 14:12 when Miesha Cousins laid the ball in off the backboard to make the score 17-2 in favor of Bloomsburg.

The Huskies then went on a 26-11 run to take their largest lead of the game at 43-13 with 4:28 remaining in the first half. Bloomsburg finished the half shooting 59 percent, while Millersville shot just 24 percent. The Huskies took a 46-24 lead.

In the second half the Marauders got as close as 68-60 with 1:29 remaining, but the Huskies hit 5-of-8 free throws down the stretch for a 73-60 win. Bloomsburg has now won four-straight against Millersville.

Sophia Waters led Millersville with 16 points off the bench, including four 3-pointers. Aurielle Mosley returned to the starting lineup and recorded her 18th double-double of season with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Mosley also collected a career-high five assists.  Mashira Newman also finished in double-figures with 10 points.

Millersville will travel to West Chester on Tuesday, Feb. 28 to take on the Golden Rams in the first round of the PSAC Tournament. It is the Marauders 16th-straight appearance in postseason play. The game time will be announced later Saturday evening after the men's bracket is finalized.
