Men's Cross Country Takes Home All-Academic Award

Millersville, Pa. – Last week, the USTFCCCA announced its individual athletes that were chosen for the All-Academic cross country team, honoring seven Millersville runners from both the men and women's teams. This week, the USTFCCCA announced the teams that would collectively receive the award and Millersville's men's cross country team gained All-Academic status.

The award is determined by a collective team grade point average of 3.00 or better and a compiled score of five runners or better finishing at their respective NCAA Regional Championships. The Marauders were among 80 NCAA Division II teams to qualify for All-Academic status. The PSAC was second among conferences with teams that qualified with seven teams, following only the GLIAC with eight.

Millersville's men's cross country team had a cumulative 3.07 GPA and finished seven runners at the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championship on Nov. 5, 2011. Chris Brandt, Zach Mains, James McBride, Andrew Musselman, Michael Parker, Bradley Slaughter and Connor Veres were the seven runners that helped the Marauders to qualify for All-Academic status. McBride and Parker were the only two runners to gain individual All-Academic status.

The other six PSAC teams to qualify for this award were: California (Pa.), 3.36 GPA; Edinboro, 3.23; Gannon, 3.60 (second among all teams); Kutztown, 3.13; Slippery Rock, 3.06; and West Chester, 3.08. The women's teams that qualified for the award will be announced on Thursday.
