Mehmedovic, Marauders Roll to 2-0 with 69-60 Win Over PhilaU

Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. – A year ago, junior Senada Mehmedovic scored 22 total points in her first season with Millersville. Tuesday night against Philadelphia University, Mehmedovic exploded for 27 points to lift the Marauders to a 69-60 victory over the Lady Rams.

Mehmedovic added three assists, three rebounds and three steals while shooting a sparkling 56 percent (9-of-16) from the field and 6-for-10 from deep. The Widener transfer was an integral part of a Millersville team that has now led wire-to-wire in both games of the young season to start 2-0 for the seventh-straight year.

With the Marauders' main backcourt scorers, Mashira Newman and Carly Gallagher, struggling all night to the tune of a combined 3-for-15 shooting for a total of eight points, Mehmedovic did the heavy lifting. She scored the most points in a game since Aurielle Mosley tallied 28 against Indiana (Pa.) on Jan. 7 last season.

In the frontcourt, Mosley and Miesha Cousins poured in strong performances with nine and eight points, respectively. Mosley pulled down eight rebounds and Cousins collected seven more. Two freshmen also played key roles in the win, as Celeste Robinson notched 10 points, five rebounds, five steals and four assists and Yasmin Cooper led the team in rebounding with 11.

Millersville had a safe, 15-point lead at halftime after a 37-22 first half. The Marauders came out firing in the second half, as the road team's lead swelled to 25 points (64-39) with 8:47 to go. At that point, Philadelphia mounted a late charge, cashing in a 21-5 run to close the final gap to nine points. The run, however, proved to be too little, too late for the Lady Rams, who fall to 3-2 with the loss.

It was another strong all-around effort on the offensive end, the glass and the defensive end of the floor for the Marauders, as the team had 17 assists on 28 made field goals and 23 offensive rebounds leading to 14 second-chance points. Millersville also managed 15 steals, leading to 30 points off of turnovers.

Philadelphia, meanwhile, had a strong showing offensively, shooting 42 percent as a team from the field and registering assists on 14 of 22 buckets. The Lady Rams were led by Kristen Blye's 15 points and seven rebounds.

Next up for Millersville are two PSAC crossover dates with Lock Haven and Clarion this weekend.
