Cheyney, Pa. – Entering Saturday's regular season finale against Cheyney, Millersville was seeking positive momentum heading into Tuesday's first round PSAC Tournament matchup at Lock Haven. The Marauders got the ball rolling and blanked the Wolves, 3-0. The team finished the regular season with wins in six of its final 10 matches overall.
Millersville took down Cheyney on its home floor by straight-set scores of 25-16, 25-13 and 25-17. The Marauder attack was strong collectively, hitting .280 as a team for the match. The strong offensive play was mostly due to great passing, as the team had 27 assists, with eight Marauders having two or more.
The defense also played well, with 40 total digs and three blocks. More importantly, the Marauders limited the Wolves to a team hitting percentage of .096. A good portion of Millersville's points came via the serve, however, with the team posting 21 aces for an average of seven per set.
Katie Lesinski led the Marauders in kills for the fifth straight match, posting 11 on a stellar .304 hitting percentage. Backing up Lesinski at the net were Kayla Wallace and Rebecca Roman, who had six and five kills, respectively. Jessica Franz did the bulk of the passing, assisting on nine kills to pace the Marauders in that category. Taylor Smith registered a team-high four aces.
Defensively, Brooklyn Smith led the team with nine digs, Sue Caramanico chipped in eight and Lesinski added seven. Alicia Kucey paced the team with three total blocks (one solo).
Millersville now turns its attention to its PSAC Tournament date at Lock Haven on Tuesday. The time for that match is still to be determined (TBD). Stay tuned to MillersvilleAthletics.com for more updates.
