Larry Grant scored 26 points for the Marauders, but the Pioneers used red-shooting and a pestering defense to hand Millersville its second consecutive loss to start the season.
Millersville (0-2), now off to its first 0-2 start since 2001, weathered two early Glenville State (1-1) runs to stay in the game. Glenville State's trapping defense, which forced 10 first-half turnovers, and long-range accuracy (5-of-12 shooting on threes), ran its advantage to 42-24 on a Jamel Morris 3-pointer with 2:24 left in the first half.
Millersville's answer all game was Grant. He scored 56 points in the weekend's two games, and his 3-pointer 20 seconds later started a 10-2 run to close the half and slash Glenville's lead down to 44-34. Grant kept the Marauders rolling in the second, scoring five of the team's first seven points, and
Brandon Belt's dunk at the 17:53 mark brought Millersville to within one at 44-43.
The clubs traded baskets until
Nate Bollinger hit a 3-pointer with 13:37 to go, tying the game at 50.
Xavier Mumford's dunk at the 12:19 mark gave Millersville a 54-52 lead--its first since early in the second half.
Glenville retook the advantage, but Grant's jumper with 7:46 remaining gave Millersville a 62-61 lead. J.J. Vazquez answer Grant with a three-point play and jumper on back-to-back possessions, and Millersville never again saw the lead.
Millersville trailed 70-68 after a Bollinger basket at the four minute mark, but the Marauders missed their next seven shots from the field. Glenville put the game away with near perfect free throw shooting.
