Men's Soccer Taken Down in Regular Season Finale by WCU

Box Score Millersville, Pa. – Going into Saturday's pivotal PSAC matchup with West Chester, Millersville was seeking to gain ground in the conference standings and breathing room between itself and the Golden Rams. West Chester had other plans, however, and spoiled the Marauders' Senior Day, topping Millersville 3-2 in the 2nd overtime.

After a scoreless first half, the visitors opened the scoring in the 49th minute when Conor Malarney hit Christian Benner in stride on a centering pass, sending Benner on a breakaway. He beat Millersville keeper Brad Benzing to the corner and lifted the shot for a 1-0 West Chester lead.

The Marauders had a quick answer, as Andrew Dukes connected for his fifth goal of the year seven minutes later on a pass across the box from Jaime Vazquez to knot the game at one. As quick as the Marauders fought back, they saw the tie vanquished when Malarney gave the Golden Rams a 2-1 lead 30 seconds later, chipping the ball over Benzing's head on a breakaway and tapping it in off his foot.

Just as the game was winding down and looked to be a 2-1 defeat for the Marauders, Millersville scored again in the 82nd minute. Anthony Fratini headed home his first goal of the year on a beautiful cross from Ryan Rohrer, which came on a free kick as a result of a West Chester foul. After playing out the rest of regulation and the first overtime scoreless, West Chester struck.

In the 108th minute and just two minutes short of the Marauders' first tie of the year, the Golden Rams' Kevin McCann took a pass from Jake Maxwell to the right of the goal. McCann dropped in a high-arcing shot that just cleared Benzing's outstretched hand to find the back of the net and give West Chester the win.

The loss drops Millersville to 9-8 and 6-3 in the PSAC, while the win took West Chester to 8-7-2 and 6-2-1 in the PSAC, inching the Golden Rams ahead of the Marauders in the standings. This game had all the makings of a rivalry game, with play getting chippy. Two yellow cards were assessed to West Chester (Roberta Silva, Tommy Ryan) and a red card was handed out to Millersville's Jordan Brubaker.

As a result of the loss, the Marauders claim the fourth seed in the PSAC playoffs, which means they will host California (Pa.) on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 1 p.m. Fans that cannot make it to the game can follow live stats or watch live in the new and improved All-Access.
