Marauders net late goal to secure draw against No. 19 Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Millersville men's soccer team finished Saturday afternoon's matchup with a 1–1 draw against Bloomsburg.

Millersville came out strong to begin the first half, earning two corner kicks in the first five minutes. However, the early momentum did not lead to a goal, as Bloomsburg got on the board first in the 13th minute off a corner kick.

Bloomsburg carried this momentum for the next 15 minutes, recording multiple shots and earning several corner kicks. The Marauders responded with a series of shots toward the end of the half but were unable to capitalize.

It was all Millersville in the second half. After two saves by Gavin Massimi in the first three minutes, the Marauders marched down the field and began generating offensive pressure. Multiple Millersville players took shot attempts, with Haven Thomas recording the team's only shot on goal during that stretch.

Millersville finally capitalized in the 72nd minute as Fallou Cisse connected with Zander Leik for the tying goal. This marked the third consecutive match in which Leik found the back of the net.

The Marauders continued to pressure the Huskies' defense, earning several corner kicks and forcing multiple shots on goal. However, their efforts were not enough, as the game concluded in a 1–1 draw.

Millersville returns to action next Saturday to take on East Stroudsburg while celebrating the 65th anniversary of the men's soccer program. Match action is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at Pucillo Field.

THOUGHTS FROM HEAD COACH STEVE WIDDOWSON
  • What adjustments do you need to see from the guys to prevent the early goals? "It's nothing to do with early goals really. It's just goals in general that we need to focus, communicate, and execute better to prevent. The good thing today was that we restricted them to the single goal which meant we were always in the game."
  • The team outshot Bloomsburg 17-4 in the second half. What do you think the guys could have done differently to capitalize on those opportunities? "Simply get more opportunities on goal and I think our follow up on some rebounds could have been brighter. We also took a few very low percentage shots where we could have kept building more. Overall though, our second half performance was really good. We just need to show this style and freedom more often and for longer periods in games."
