Indiana, Pa. – In just her second game back after missing nine straight, redshirt freshman
Carly Gallagher drained a 3-pointer from 26-feet out at the buzzer to give No. 24 Indiana (Pa.) its first loss of the season by a score of 58-55 Saturday evening at the new Kovalchick Complex.
Millersville (8-4, 5-3 PSAC) took its first lead of the game with 49 seconds remaining in regulation.
Leola Pinkney was fouled on the floor away from the ball to earn two foul shots trailing by just one, 54-53. Pinkney, who was one-for-two from the line in the game, made good on both attempts to give the Marauders a 55-54 lead.
Indiana (Pa.) (11-1, 7-1 PSAC) earned two foul shots of its own on the following offensive trip.
Aurielle Mosley, the game's leading scorer, picked up her fifth foul away from the play to give Vianca Tejada two shots. Tejada made the first but then missed the second with the ball going out of bounds to Millersville with 27 seconds remaining and the game tied at 55-55.
Mashira Newman stood with the ball at the top of the key to let seconds wind down for the final shot. With 10 seconds left Newman drove inside and then kicked it out to Gallagher at the right wing. From 26-feet out, Gallagher drained the three point shot as the clock ran out and the buzzer sounded giving Millersville a 58-55 win.
The Marauders trailed by 11 points at the break, down 32-21. Millersville was held under double-digits until Mosley hit back-to-back free throws to cut the Crimson Hawks lead to 20-10 with 5:30 remaining in the first half.
Mosley led the Marauders in the first half with 14 points, including eight-for-eight from the charity stripe in the half. Mosley finished the game with a season-high 28 points--one point shy of her career best--to secure her eight double-double of the season. Most impressively, Mosley went 14-of-16 from the foul line to set a career-high.
In the second half Gallagher made her presence known. After going 0-for-3 from the field in the first half, Gallagher went six-of 10 from behind the arc, including the game-winner, to finish the game with a career-high 18 points.
The Marauders shot an impressive 72 percent (18-for-25) from the foul line after shooting 40 percent at California (Pa.) the day before.
Millersville travels to Cheyney on Wednesday, Jan. 11 to open up PSAC Eastern play. The Marauders and Wolves are set to tip at 6 p.m.
