Marauders Quieted in Overtime; Fall to Vulcans

Box Score California, Pa. – Millersville let go of a 10-point halftime lead and saw California (Pa.) tie the game with under a second remaining in regulation Friday evening. The Vulcans took control of the overtime period with a 20-3 run to defeat the visiting Marauders, 86-69.

CalU (8-3, 5-2 PSAC) tied the game at 66-66 with less than a second remaining in regulation when Nakia DeBlanc cleaned up her own missed shot off a set play. Millersville (7-4, 4-3 PSAC) was not left with enough time to attempt a shot to force overtime.

In overtime, it was all Vulcans. Danielle Luckett, who finished with a game-high 22 points, opened the overtime period with a quick bucket and one on a foul to give CalU a 69-66 lead just second in. The Vulcans extended their lead to 73-66 before Mashira Newman drained a three-point shot to bring Millersville within four points, down 73-69.

The Vulcans then went on a 13-0 run to close out the game for an 86-69 victory. CalU shot 63 percent in overtime, while shooting a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line. The Marauders, however, shot 1-for-11 in the overtime period.

Redshirt freshman Carly Gallagher, making her first appearance since the first game of the season due to injury, led all scorers with 10 points at the break.

The Marauders struggled in the second half shooting just 30-percent from the field, but were still able to keep the lead for much of the half. It was not until there was 1:49 remaining in regulation when CalU took its first lead of the game. Millersville was able to regain the lead with four seconds remaining when Sophia Waters drain a jumper to give the Marauders a 66-64 advantage before the Vulcans tied the game and sent it to overtime.

Millersville finished the game going 12-for-29 from the charity stripe.

Millersville had five players finish in double figures. Gallagher finished the game with a team-high and a career-high 16 points in 24 minutes of action after missing the last nine games. Aurielle Mosley collected her seventh double-double of the season with 13 points and 13 rebounds.  Newman also finished with 13 points, while Waters and Leola Pinkney each contributed 10.

The Marauders stay on the road for a matchup with the No. 24 Indiana (Pa.) Crimson Hawks tomorrow. The Crimson Hawks have yet to lose a game with a perfect 10-0 (6-0 PSAC) record. Millersville and IUP are set to tip at 5:30 p.m.
