Lewisburg, Pa. – With a two-week layoff since their last competition, the Millersville men and women's track & field teams competed well at the first day of events in the Bison Open, held at Bucknell University Friday.
Friday's big story for the Marauders came in the form of Keith Ogden. This time out, Ogden smashed the school record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.50 seconds. Eddie Arnold set the previous record in 1991, when he was clocked at 22.71 in the 200-meter. Counting relays, this is the third school record Ogden now either holds or shares for the indoor season. Despite the broken record, Ogden's time was still fourth best in the preliminaries. The final race runs today in the second day of action.
Staying in the 200-meter dash on the men's side, Ogden will have a teammate running with him in the finals, as Jeff Robinson also qualified for the Marauders. Robinson ran a time of 22.75, winning his heat and breaking into the top 10 times in a crowded 54-man field.
The women's 200-meter dash also saw a Marauder qualifier, as Chrissy Savage cemented her spot in today's final with a time of 27.13, making her one of the top 10 times in a 37-woman field. Savage also took second in her heat and ran the best team time of the season so far in the event. Savage also held the previous best time of 27.66 seconds, a second place finish two weeks ago at the Golden Bear Open in Kutztown.
The Marauders also ran well in the distance events. On the men's side of the 5,000-meter run, Zach Mains and Michael Parker placed fourth and sixth, respectively. Mains finished with a time of 15:46.64 while Parker came in nearly two seconds behind Mains at a time of 15:48.61. Both times will qualify Mains and Parker for the PSAC Championships at the end of the indoor season.
On the women's side of the 5,000-meter run, Sarah Mulvey also qualified for the PSAC Championships. Mulvey ran a time of 19:08.23 to finish in ninth place out of 22 competitors for the event. It was the first time Mulvey had ever competed in the 5,000-meter run during the indoor season.
The medley relays were also successful for the Marauders, as both the men and women's 'A' teams took second in their respective races. The men's team consisted of Seth Hibbs, Andrew Musselman, Kevin DiFlorio and James McBride, finishing with a time of 10:25.40. The women's team, made up of Brittney Martin, Janna Richards, Megan Meyer and anchored by Elicia Anderson clocked a time of 12:25.48 in their second place finish.
Finally, in the last competition of the day, the men's heptathlon began. Through four events, Zach Kohler has amassed 2,648 points. Kohler placed eighth in the 60-meter dash portion of the event, clocking at a time of 7.49 seconds. In the long jump, Kohler took fifth, with a height of 6.18 meters. The third event was shot put, with Kohler finishing in sixth at a 10.58 meter throw. The fourth and final event of the heptathlon on Friday was the high jump, where Kohler finished with his best place of the day, coming in at second with a height of 1.98 meters.
