
Marauders Outlast Diplomats 3-2

Millersville, Pa. – A Division III opponent on the schedule for the Marauders was thought to be a walk in the park. Tonight's match at Pucillo Gymnasium against Franklin & Marshall College proved to be anything but. After jumping out to an early 2-0 lead, Millersville had to hold on for a 3-2 win over the Diplomats to improve their record to 6-8.
The Marauders looked to have an easy night in front of them after taking the first two sets of the matchby scores of 25-20 and 25-19. The Diplomats, however, fought back to win the next two sets 25-15 and 26-24 before falling to Millersville in the fifth and final set, 15-8.
Allison Huss and Katie Lesinski powered the Marauders attack with 10 kills each. Huss also finished with 16 digs and a .265 hitting percentage on a team-high 34 swings in addition to the 10 kills. Lesinski also finished with a double-double, adding 10 digs to the 10 kills.
Alyssa Ott was another top performer for Millersville, posting six kills and a team-high 11 block-assists. Katie Pisano and Jessica Franz added 17 and 15 assists, respectively.
Millersville won this match on the strength of its defense. The Marauders blocked 15 shots, compared to just six for the Diplomats. Kerry Rom did all she could for her team, killing 17 of her match-high 39 swings, while Caroline Hubbard added 40 assists for F&M.
The Marauders hit the road for back-to-back matches this weekend at Kutztown on Friday and West Chester on Saturday. The team returns home next Tuesday for a PSAC match against Shippensburg at 7 p.m.
