Bloomsburg, Pa. – The Marauders and the Huskies were eager to compete after both squads dealt with weather postponements to begin the season. Millersville traveled to Bloomsburg Wednesday evening and shutout the Huskies, 2-0.
 
In two games the Marauders (2-0, 1-0 PSAC) have scored four goals and shutout both opponents. The most impressive stat is total saves--showing how staunch the defense has been. Brad Benzing has only needed to make six saves for the Marauders--five coming in Wednesday's game at Bloomsburg. 
 
For the second time in as many games sophomore Andrew Dukes put Millersville on the board first. It came in the 13th minute of play. Newcomer Ryan Rohrer sent a low cross into the box that found Dukes for a one-touch shot into the right corner of the goal to put the Marauders up, 1-0.
 
Millersville possessed the ball in the offensive zone for most of the first session, leading the Huskies (0-2, 0-1 PSAC) in shots (7-5) and corner attempts (3-1). Bloomsburg, however, had one more shot on goal than the Marauders.
 
The second session became physical as 12 of the 21 combined fouls and four of the five combined yellow cards were called. The first yellow card of the second half gave Millersville a chance to increase its lead.
 
In the 52nd minute, Bloomsburg's Anthony Manero received a yellow card for playing the ball with his hand in the defensive box. The result was a penalty kick for senior Aaron Roland, and the Marauders' second penalty kick in two games. The Huskies' goalkeeper Bernie Roell bailed out Manero, making a brilliant save to keep Millersville's lead at one.
 
Freshman Clark Habecker secured the Marauders' win in 84th minute. Senior Eric Pepper took a Millersville corner and sent it into the box. Pepper's kick met Habecker for a header that went top shelf on the left side to give the Marauders a 2-0 lead and the eventual win.
 
A matchup with East Stroudsburg is next on the schedule for Millersville. That game is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Chryst Field on Saturday, Sept. 17. It is Youth Night at the stadium and all youth soccer players are encouraged to support the Marauders and wear their team's jersey to the game.
