Wingate, N.C. - Millersville's seven-game winning streak was stopped in its tracks by Wingate Wednesday afternoon. Wingate starter Greyson Davis kept a red-hot Marauder lineup in check, and Casey Allison's two-run home run lifted the Bulldogs to a 7-3 win.
Wingate (16-10) received seven innings from Greyson (1-0), who picked up his first win of the year. He held Millersville to three runs--two earned--on six hits and struck out four while walking none. Millersville (8-3), meanwhile, used five pitchers.
Kyle Belanchik (0-1) took the loss after giving up two runs in the fifth inning.
Millersville jumped in front ealry with two runs in the third.
Zach Stone led off the frame with a double and later scored on
Ryan McCormick's ground out.
Chris Edgar and
Derek Kline hit back-to-back singles, and Edgar scored on a Wingate error.
Wingat got one run back in the third and tied the game in the fourth off starter
Mike McMonagle, who worked 3.2 innings. The Bulldogs took the lead for good in the fifth, scoring three runs on three hits. Allison's homer put the Bulldogs up 5-2.
Kline hit his second homer of the year in the sixth, but Wingate tacked on a couple more insurance runs, and Davis and Steven Vaughn kept Wingate on top by silencing the Marauder bats.
Kline and
Mike August both recorded two hits.
Millersville gets an off-day Thursday, but returns to action Friday at Chowan.
