Newark, Del. - Despite playing through cold and windy conditions, the Millersville men's golf team took third place at the Goldey-Beacom Spring Invitational. Five Marauders cracked the top 25, and the team was led by Brian Cooper's seventh-place finish.
Cooper entered the week with only one top 25 in the previous six events. He recovered from an 10-over-par 80 in the opening round with a 6-over-par 76. It was the third-best score of the round. His 16-over-par total on the difficult Deerfield Golf Club course was good for seventh place and was seven strokes behind winner Wes Hood of Goldey-Beacom. It was also Cooper's best finish since taking fourth at the Vulcan Invitational in October of 2009.
As a team, the Marauders stood in second place after an opening round 317. Team team dropped to third with a 321 on day two. Nyack fired a 313 in the second round to jump into second. Goldey-Beacom shot back-to-back 311's to place first.
Freshman Chris Fieger turned in the best finish of his career. His consecutive rounds of 80 placed him in a tie for 13th. Shane Henry placed one stroke behind in a tie for 16th. George Trosley and Matt Dudas tied for 21st in the 59-player field.
