Millersville, Pa. – Slippery Rock took a two-goal lead into halftime and out-scored Millersville 9-1 in the second period as the Marauders dropped a 17-7 decision to The Rock Friday afternoon at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium. The contest marked the first time ever Millersville fell to Slippery Rock in 11 meetings between the two clubs.
The Rock (3-3, 1-3 PSAC) saw six players score two or more goals and eight players score overall. Millersville was led by seniors
Mary Houtmann and
Kelsey Schmoltze, who tallied two goals apiece.
With the game knotted at one after 10 minutes of action, SRU went on a 5-2 scoring run that spanned nine minutes to jump out to an unanswerable lead.
Millersville tallied three more goals to close the half but Slippery Rock chipped in two more to take an 8-5 advantage into the break. The Marauders were forced to play man-down for 17:48 of the first half and then entire second half due to a red card violation.
Schmoltze opened the second period with a goal less than two minutes in and it was the MU last score for the remainder of the contest. The Rock rattled off nine more goals to pick up its first conference victory of the season.
Slippery Rock's main scoring opportunities came from the free position circle, netting seven free position shots on 11 attempts. The visitors only out-shot Millersville by a 29-25 margin, but the Marauders struggled to find the back of the net all afternoon, including missing on all three free position attempts.

Courtney Haggerty set aside nine shots on goal and picked up a team-high six ground balls. Kat Elkins registered 11 saves for SRU.

Millersville returns to action on Saturday, March 26 when the squad hosts Edinboro. First-time action between the Marauders and the Fighting Scots is scheduled for 1 p.m.
