Rothschild Sets PSAC Record and Kline Rips Four Hits as Marauders Rout Chowan, 19-3

Box Score

Murfreesboro, N.C. - When Millersville junior Brooks Rothschild entered Friday's game at Chowan, the Marauders were already in front by 13 runs and well on their way to a 19-3 victory. Rothschild pitched just three total innings, but with the first out of the sixth inning, he set a PSAC record for consecutive scoreless innings pitched. Derek Kline, who started the game on the mound, led the Marauders at plate with four hits, two homers and four RBIs.

Millersville ripped 19 hits and piled up double-digit runs for the fifth time this year. Millersville scored 11 of its 19 runs in the fourth inning. Jeff Heisey and Ryan Chesler also hit homers and drove in three runs, and Scott Stevens hit his first home run since the 2009 season and plated four runs.

Rothschild, who had not allowed a run this season and in his last 25.2 dating back to last year, needed just 1.1 scoreless to break the conference record of 26.2 set by Clarion's Brad Frazier in 1992. Rothschild pitched a shutout fifth and struck out the second batter of the sixth to set a new mark at 27.0. The next batter walked, and Jordan Williams singled in the first run off Rothschild since April 16, 2010.

Kline (2-0) picked up the win, pitching four innings and allowing one run on three hits and three walks. He also struck out five. Rothschild allowed two runs on three hits in three innings, and Zach Eckley finished the final two innings, surrendering only one hit.

At the plate, Kline extended his hitting streak to 10 games and recorded his first four-hit game since April 6 of last season. With his fourth hit of the game, he became just the third player in school history to record 200 hits in a career. His first homer of the game came as part of Millersville's 11-run fourth. The Marauders hit three in the inning as Heisey and Chesler went back-to-back.

Kline and Stevens both smacked home runs in the eighth, as the Marauders added five runs to its lead. Twelve of the 14 Millersville batters that went to the plate recorded at least one hit.

The Marauders travel to Washington Adventist Monday for a doubleheader.
