Red-Hot Huskies Too Much for Millersville

Box Score

Millersville, Pa. – For the second time this season the Millersville women's basketball team could not slow Bloomsburg's 3-point shooting efforts, and the Marauders dropped its second PSAC East game to the Huskies, 79-68 inside Pucillo Gymnasium Saturday afternoon. It was the first time since 2008-09 that Millersville lost a regular season conference game on its home court.

Entering the contest, the clubs knew what was on the line: the top spot in the PSAC East. With the win Bloomsburg (15-5, 7-1 PSAC East) took the reins of the division and picked up its first win at Millersville since the 2003-04 season.

Kelsey Gallagher and Dana Wieller paced the Huskies' offense with a combined 59 points. The Marauders could not put a stop to Gallagher who was hot from the floor all afternoon. She knocked down 12-of-18 from the field and hit seven treys en route to her career-high 36 points.

Wieller tallied 23 points on the day with five buckets from behind the arc, seven field goals and a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line.

Millersville (16-4, 6-2 PSAC East) held a four-point lead six minutes into the first period but Bloomsburg quickly took over. A layup from Wieller sparked a 10-2 run in which the Huskies' nabbed the lead.

Once the visitors took over at the 12:19 mark they would not let up for the remainder of action. The squads entered the break with a 36-31 BU edge.

The Marauders would come within three points—their smallest deficit of the half—just once, and every time MU would start the close the gap Bloomsburg had an answer.

Although Millersville recorded 20 points in the paint and scored 11 second-chance points in the second period, it was not enough to combat the visitors' 41.2 percent shooting from the 3-point line.

Sophomore Aurielle Mosley led the Marauders with her fifth consecutive and 11th double-double of the season with 24 points and 14 rebounds. Mosley also knocked down 8-of-9 from the charity stripe and handed out a career-high four assists.

Gabrielle Styles registered her second career double-double performance with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Mashira Newman added 16 points for Millersville, and Sophia Waters scored nine points and collected a game-high six steals.

The Marauders hit the road for Cheyney on Wednesday, Feb. 9 for the second division match-up between the clubs. When Millersville and the Wolves last faced off MU came away with a 57-41 victory. Action is scheduled for 6 p.m., inside Cope Hall.
