Kutztown, Pa. – Relentless defense has become the signature of the Millersville women's basketball team. It is a defense that smothers opponents and wins games, and Saturday was no different as MU defeated Kutztown 67-58 on the road to close out the regular season.
Forcing Kutztown to commit a season-high 23 turnoversm Millersville (21-5, 11-3 PSAC East) registered 25 points off of KU errors. The pressure-filled defense also limited Melissa McQuade—the PSAC's fifth leading scorer with 17.3 points per game—to just seven total points. All but two of McQuade's season-low point total came in the first half.
Millersville opened the contest with an 11-2 run, and Kutztown (15-11, 8-6 PSAC East) could not recover despite shooting 52 percent in the second period. The Golden Bears cut their deficit to four two separate times in the second half, but the Marauder squad kept its composure and maintained a steady double-digit for the final 11 minutes of play.
Head coach
Mary Fleig received a balanced offensive performance from her club as three players scored in double figures. Sophomore
Aurielle Mosley scored a game-high 22 points while classmate
Mashira Newman added 19 and junior

The nation's third-leading shot blocking team with 3.1 blocks per game, Millersville swatted away a total of six Kutztown shots. Four blocks came from Mosley, and

Newman, who ranks third in Division II with 3.9 steals per game, nabbed a game-high eight steals--one short of the Golden Bears' entire team total.
Brittany LeVan led Kutztown with 15 points and Steph Zewe and Ashley Wood each added 11. The Golden Bears will travel to No. 1 seed Bloomsburg on Tuesday, March 1 for the first found of PSAC playoffs.
With West Chester's loss to Bloomsburg Saturday afternoon, Millersville became the No. 2 seed due to a tiebreaker and will host the Golden Rams for the first round of the tournament. The third match-up of the season between the two teams will take place on Tuesday inside Pucillo Gymnasium. It is also a rematch of last year's PSAC quarterfinal.
