ABOUT THE GAME
· Bouncing back from its overtime loss to West Chester last weekend, Millersville defeated Shippensburg 70-56 in its final home contest of the regular season. The win marks the fourth-straight year that head coach
Mary Fleig's team has posted a 20-win season and 10th time in her 21 years at the MU helm. Under Fleig's guidance Millersville is making its 15th-straight trip to the PSAC tournament. It is most likely that the Marauders will host the first round of action.
· Sophomore
Mashira Newman led Millersville over the Lady Raiders with a career-high 30 points--the most points scored by a Marauder since the 2005-06 season. Newman tallied 19 of her points in the second half on 6-of-6 shooting from the floor and 2-of-2 from behind the arc. Classmate
Aurielle Mosley scored 14 points and pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds for her 10th-straight and 16th double-double of the season.
· Millersville ranks second in Division II with 6.1 blocks per game, and third in rebounding margin with a +10.9 advantage on the glass over their opponents. MU also holds the 15th spot with 12.9 steals per game. Individually, both Mosley and Newman have consistantly appeared as the top of the statistics. Mosley leads the nation with 13 rebounds per game and is tied for eighth with 3.1 blocks per game. Newman ranks third in steals with 3.9 per game and sits 22nd with 5.0 assists per game.
· The Marauders and Kutztown will face off for the second time this season. MU got off to a slow start in the last match-up, but Millersville's hot-shooting second half performance lifted the club over the visiting Bears. Mosley led the Marauders with game-highs of 17 points and 17 rebounds. Millersville also limited Kutztown's leading scorer Melissa McQuade to just 10 points.
· Millersville has won 20 of the last 21 bouts with Kutztown dating back to 2002. When playing at Kutztown the Marauders hold a slight 16-13 advantage over the Golden Bears, and have won six of the last seven contests in Keystone Arena.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
· Kutztown clinched a spot in the PSAC playoffs Wednesday with a 73-59 win over Mansfield on the road. Three players reached double figures for the club, which shot fifty percent from the floor. The Gold Bears will make their third-consecutive trip to the playoffs and will most likely travel to Bloomsburg and face the Huskies on March 1.
· The last time the two clubs matched up Millersville came away with a 63-59 victory at home. While Kutztown had an impressive first half which included a 54.5 shooting performance, the Marauders took over in the second. The Golden Bears could only connect on 10 of their 35 second-half shots.
· Senior forward Melissa McQuade--Kutztown's all-time leading scorer and rebounder--was named to the 2010-11 Capital One Academic All-America Second Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America. McQuade has a 3.94 Grade point average and is a three-time PSAC scholar-athlete. She is also the Golden Bears' leading scorer this season with 17.3 points per game.
