Box Score
Dahlonega, Ga. - Millersville faced a three-run deficit entering the ninth inning of Saturday's contest at No. 8 North Georgia.
Mike August tied the game with a three-run double, but the homestanding Saints answered back in the bottom of the inning with game-winning RBI single from Daniel Warzon. The hit lifted the Saints past Millersville, 4-3.
Millersville (1-1) could not solve North Georgia (7-1) starter Blake Hobby (2-0), who surrendered just two hits and three walks over seven shutout innings. Millersville's pitching kept the game close, though. Freshman
Tim Mayza gave up one run on two hits while striking out three in four innings. North Georgia managed two runs in the bottom of the sixth off of fellow freshman
Tad Barton.
Mike McMonagle (0-1) entered in the seventh and kept the Saints off the board until Warzon's hit in the final frame.
The Marauders trailed 3-0 with two outs in the top of the ninth, but
Carlos Medina started a rally when he was plunked by a pitch.
Ryan Chesler followed with a walk.
Jeff Heisey came on to pinch run, and
Zach Stone immediately singled to center field, filling the bases for August.
August, who tallied three hits and drove in a run on Friday, ripped a double down the left field line, clearing the bases and tying the game at 3-3.
The Saints wasted no time starting their own rally in the ninth, though. The leadoff hitter doubled and after McMonagle retired two outs, he intentionally walked Troy Snitker, who had already recorded two hits on the day. Warzon made the Marauders pay for the decision as he singled into right center, plating the winning run.
McMonagle took the loss, scattering four hits and two walks in 2.2 innings. Jacob Rickett picked up the win despite allowing three runs in the ninth.
August recorded his second-straight multi-hit game, going 2-for-4. Stone and
Nick Bonadies accounted for Millersville's only other hits.
Millersville looks to win the series Sunday afternoon. Game time is 12 p.m.
