West Chester's Big Second Quarter Sinks Marauders

Millersville, Pa. - West Chester's 28-point second quarter blew open Saturday's game at Millersville, and the Golden Rams cruised to a 49-13 road victory.

The Golden Rams (5-5, 4-3 PSAC East) took a 14-0 lead into the second quarter, but Millersville's Ian Sadon cut the lead to 14-6 on a 2-yard touchdown run. West Chester, however, scored four times in the final 12:35 including two touchdowns in the final 1:41 to open a sizeable lead.

It was a quick strike West Chester offense needed no more than 3:54 to score any of its first half touchdowns. The visitors led Millersville 28-6 until Dan Miller led an 11-play, 58-yard drive that was ended in his one yard sneak across the goal line. With just 1:41 remaining in the half, West Chester used three Sean McCartney passes to travel 58 yards. On Millersville's next pay, a screen pass from  Miller was intercepted at the the 29-yard line, and West Chester made good on the field position with a 20-yard strike to Rondell White.

That put West Chester in front 42-13, and White added a 37-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to cap the scoring.

West Chester totaled 542 yards of total  offense including 331 through the air. McCartney accounted for 274 of those yards on 15-of-19 passing with three touchdowns. Millersville totaled 302 yards of offense, marking the second time in three games it has reached the 300-yard mark. Miller completed 11-of-21 passes for 136 yards and found Dominic Sanders five times for 61 yards.

Marquis White led both teams on the ground with 92 yards and a 4.6 average per carry.

Ronell Williams led West Chester with 16 tackles, 3.5 for loss and 1.5 sacks. Pat Maloney paced the Marauder defense with eight stops.

The Marauders close out the 2011 season at home on Nov. 12 against Clarion. Game time is 1 p.m.
