THE STARTING FIVE
(1) Millersville has begun its season with a 2-0 conference record with wins over Mercyhurst (62-48) and Slippery Rock (81-49). Head coach
Mary Fleig improved her season opener record to 18-4, 15-1 at home with the win against the Lakers on Saturday, Nov. 19.
(2) Redshirt junior
Mashira Newman is coming off a dominating first week performance where she claimed PSAC East Athlete of the Week honors on Monday, Nov. 21. Newman led all scorers against Merchurst with 19. Against Slippery Rock, Newman collected her fourth career double-double and a career-high four blocks. Newman leads the team in points, assists, steals and block shots to date.
(3) Redshirt junior
Aurielle Mosley posted back-to-back double-doubles in the opening weekend to collected her 20th and 21st career double-doubles. Mosley scored 16 points with 13 boards against Mercyhurst and added three assists, a blck and a steal. The next day Mosley registered 15 points and collects 11 rebounds to start a two-game double-double streak to begin the season.
(4) Four newcomers, including three freshmen, saw action in Millersville's last outing against Slippery Rock. Freshman guard
Shelby Reimer drained her first career shot from behind the arc before finishing the game 3-for-3 from the field with seven points in 17 minutes. Freshman forward
Rachel Coulter went 1-for-1 for two points in six minutes of action.
(5) The Marauders are 13-8 all-time against Philadelphia, including 10-3 under coach Fleig. Millersville is currently on a six game winning-streak versus the Rams, with its last loss coming on Feb. 16, 1998 at home in a 77-64 defeat. The Rams have only won twice at Pucillio Gymnasium in 10 appearances. On this day (Nov. 27) in 1993, the Marauders defeated Philadelphia at home by a score of 97-91--the most points scored by both teams in 21 meetings.
ABOUT PHILADELPHIA
• Philadelphia opened its 2011-12 season with back-to-back home wins over C.W. Post (81-66) and St. Thomas Aquinas (60-53). The Rams had three players in double figures against the Pioneers, including two players with over 20 points. Senior Kristen Blye lead all scorers with 27 points, while junior Stephanie Agger collected 21 points off the bench.
• Against St. Thomas Aquinas, 6-0 senior center Christine Wooding dominate the court with 23 points and 18 rebounds--15 defensive boards. Wooding was one of two Rams to play all 40 minutes of the game. Wooding scored 19 points in the opening game to lead the team in points and rebounds through two games.
• Wooding out performed all players on the court in Philadelphia's next contest to record her second-straight double-double (24 points, 15 rebounds). Byle also scored over 20 points for the Rams, but West Chester showed to be too much. The Golden Rams defeated Philadelphia 78-77 at Gallagher Center to give the Rams their first loss of the season.
• Philadelphia responded with a road win over Mercy by a score of 74-79 on Nov. 19. Wooding collected her thrid-straight double-double, while three other Rams scored in double figures.
• Four players for Philadelphia are averaging double-digits in scoring, including Wooding who is averaging 20.5 points a game to lead the team. The Rams' weakness this season is turnovers with 80 on the season to average 20 per game. Sophomore guard Megan Finn is the only member of the team with a positive assist-to-turnover ratio (16-13).
