Millersville, Pa. – A week-long layoff in between matches would have a lot of teams sluggish from the start. Millersville's women's volleyball team proved the exact opposite Tuesday. The Marauders started fast, winning the first two sets of tonight's home match against Chestnut Hill before taking the match with a victory in the fourth set.
The Marauders were strong in the early going, winning the first two sets by scores of 25-16 and 25-19. Chestnut Hill showed signs of life in the third set, winning by a score of 25-10, but the Griffins were put away by Millersville in the fourth set, 25-16, improving the Marauders season record to 8-10.
Katie Lesinski powered the Marauders attack all match, finishing with 15 total kills and a .300 hitting percentage. Allison Huss and Brittany Lease added eight kills each for Millersville and Mary Paul added seven kills.
Huss dug out a team-high 18 hits to go with her eight kills and Lease posted a .333 hitting percentage on 15 swings. Katie Pisano and Jess Franz combined to set up the Millersville attack in this match, as Pisano registered 27 assists and Franz chipped in 19. Sue Caramanico tallied 10 digs.
Alex DePalma did all she could for the Griffins. DePalma posted a double-double with 18 kills and 15 digs, hitting .375 on 40 total swings while Sidney Chukuntarod added a match-high 32 assists for Chestnut Hill.
Millersville stays home this weekend and hosts a PSAC Crossover tournament at Pucillo Gymnasium. The Marauders play Friday at 11:30 a.m. against Clarion and 7:30 p.m. against Slippery Rock. The team will seek revenge in the back end of that doubleheader, as The Rock is the only team that has defeated Millersville on its home floor this season. On Saturday, The Marauders will play Indiana (Pa.) at 10 a.m. and California (Pa.) at 6 p.m.
