Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville women's swim team collected eight first-place finishes out of 11 events to defeat Mansfield by a score of 127-68. Six different Marauders took first place in individual events, including junior Sarah Bernhardt who captured two first-place finishes.
The Marauders (3-0) opened the meet with a first and second place finish in the 400-yard medley relay to collect 15 of the races 17 points. Arielle Walbert, Brigid Mary McDonnell, Laura Cody and Bernhardt finished the race in a time of 4:21.37 to take first place and beat Millersville's other relay team by a full nine seconds. Millersville's second-place team consisted of Ashley Kichline, Adriana Rodriguez, Katie Bentley and Amie Mowery.
Millersville took first place in seven of the nine individual races. Bernhardt collected 18 points with two first place finishes in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events. She finished the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.93 seconds to earn the team's first PSAC qualifier of the season.
Laura Castello swam faster than the competition in the 1,000-yard freestyle race to finish first in a time of 11:37.19.
In the 200-yard freestyle, the Marauders took the first three places to collect 16 of the race's 19 points. Amanda Thomas finished first in a time of 2:05.94, while Emma Viets and Victoria DeTample finished second and third. Viets swam a personal best in the race in a time of 2:06.90.
Walbet and McDonnell finished one, two in the 400-yard IM to collect 13 points. Walbert finished in a time of 4:51.72, while McDonnell touched the wall in 4:53.78.
Freshman Laura Cody, who was part of the winning 400-yard medley relay team, captured first place in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:30.46. Bentley followed behind Cody for second place.
Millersville wrapped up its last first place finish in the 200-yard backstroke, taking first, second and third. Kichline took the first-place finish in a time of 2:19.18. Walbert and Thomas followed behind.
“Overall the team had a solid performance,” said head coach #Kyle Almoney. “A lot of the girls swam a season's best at today's meet and I have been pleased with their progress each week.”
The Marauders travel to Radford, Va., on Thursday, Nov. 17 to compete in the Highland Invitational. The three-day event wraps up on Saturday, Nov. 19.
