
Volleyball Goes 1-1 in Doubleheader Against West Chester, Chowan

Millersville, Pa. – On the second to last day of home matches for Millersville, the Marauders split a doubleheader, falling first to PSAC East rival West Chester 3-1 and then taking down Chowan in five sets, 3-2. Both matches were close, hard-fought thrillers that moved Millersville's season record to 15-16 (6-10 PSAC).
In the afternoon's opener, Millersville faced off against a PSAC East opponent for the second match in a row in West Chester (17-1, 6-8 PSAC). Millersville jumped out to an early 1-0 lead by hitting .409 in the first set and winning by a 25-15 score. After the first set, West Chester was able to eek out three close sets with scores of 25-23, 25-22 and 26-24. After the first set, the Marauder hitting total dipped to a total of .176 for the match.
Against the visiting Golden Rams, Allison Huss and Katie Lesinski led the way with nine kills each. Huss added 14 digs and three service aces, while Lesinski finished with nine digs to add to her kill total. Jessica Franz and Katie Pisano split duties setting up the Millersville attack, with each posting 19 assists for the match. Franz's 19 assists were part of a double-double as she added 11 digs to her total. Helping Franz out on the defensive side were Sue Caramanico and Mary Paul. Caramanico dug out 17 spikes and Paul blocked four total attacks (two solo).
On the back end of the doubleheader, the Marauders dueled closely with Chowan (21-6). Millersville and the Hawks alternated sets until the finish. Chowan took set one with a 25-21 score; Millersville won set two by a 25-23 score. Set three was won by the Hawks with a 25-18 score before the Marauders took the final two sets with scores of 25-18 and 15-13. Millersville hit .245 for the match and held the Hawks to a .174 attack percentage.
The top performer in this match was again Huss. She posted a season-high with 19 kills on a .395 attack percentage. Millersville's attack saw two other players finish with double-digit kills: Brittany Lease (11) and Lesinski (10). Lesinski committed only one hitting error and added eight digs. Pisano finished with a team-high 27 helpers, while Caramanico dug out a match-high 22 kill attempt and Paul added four more blocks (all assists).
The Marauders have three days off before hitting the road for a crucial PSAC East matchup with Shippensburg. Millersville and Shippensburg are tied for the fourth and final playoff spot in the PSAC East with Millersville having the slight edge by winning the first meeting. The teams play Tuesday at 7 p.m. Millersville's final two home matches are part of a tri-match next Saturday against Glenville State and Virginia Union.
