Millersville, Pa. - No. 20 Kutztown played Saturday's game at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium without leading rusher Robbie Frey, but it didn't matter. The Golden Bears averaged 9.1 yards per carry and pulled away from Millersville early for a 49-7 win.
Frey was the PSAC's third-leading rusher at 114 yards per game, and Curtis Wortham was the team's No. 3 rusher. Wortham, however, totaled 199 yards on just 12 carries and led the offense to 281 total yards on the ground. Quarterback Kevin Morton was an efficient 15-of-17 for 190 yards and four touchdown passes. All four went to a different receiver. Kutztown, now 6-1 overall and 3-1 in the PSAC East, has scored over 35 points in all but one game this year. Millersville (2-5, 1-3 PSAC East) has scored more than seven points in two games.
After forcing Millersville to a three-and-out on the opening possession, the Golden Bears needed just four plays to score. Wortham ripped off a 41-yard run on the first play, Josh Mastromatto gained 26 and Morton completed two passes--the second to Justin Michalak was good for six. On Millersville's next drive, a fumble at the 27-yard line put Kutztown in prime offensive position again. Morton capped a three-play drive with a 15-yard pass to Colby Tuell.
By the end of the first quarter, Kutztown led 21-0. The Golden Bears continued the onslaught, and with five seconds left in the half, Morton completed a 51-yard touchdown pass to Erik Frazier, giving his team a 42-0 lead heading into the break. By halftime, Kutztown had out-gained Millersville 274-48.
The Marauders' touchdown came on their opening drive of the third quarter.
Dan Miller piloted a 15-play, 82-yard drive that ended with a
Marquis White one-yard plunge. Miller finished the game 11-for-15 for 70 yards. The Marauders used three quarterbacks in the game.
Sean Quarterman went 1-for-15 and gained 32 before sacks knocked off 22 yards from his total.
Kevin Fowle was 1-for-4.
Millersville travels to East Stroudsburg next week and returns home on Oct. 29 for Homecoming Saturday against Shippensburg.
