ABOUT THE GAME
· After falling to West Chester in double overtime in last season's PSAC semifinals, Millersville finally got its revenge last Saturday afternoon. The Marauders handed the Golden Rams a convincing 81-59 defeat in Pucillo Gymnasium. The win, which marked West Chester's first conference loss of the season, moved Millersville up in the PSAC East race. There are now four teams tied with 3-1 records.
· For the second time this season head coach
Mary Fleig received double-digit scoring performances from five of her players. Senior
Domonique Stroman boasted her third career double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore
Aurielle Mosley reigstered her seventh double-double with a game-high 17 rebounds--10 on the offensive end alone--and 12 points. Sophomore
Mashira Newman led all scorers with 19 points, while junior
Gabrielle Styles scored a career-high 14 points. Sophomore
Carrie Sheffey also had a career day with 10 points.
· Week after week Millersville continues to move up the charts in Division II statistics. The squad ranks third in blocked shots per game with 5.9 and 19th in steals with 12.8. The Marauders also sit fourth in rebounding margin, grabbing down an average of 10.1 more rebounds per game than their opponents. MU not only holds high marks in the division, but in the PSAC as well. Millersville sits atop the conference in scoring defense average (56.3 points), offensive rebounds (20.1), rebounding margin and blocked shots.
· While Millersville averages 65.2 points per game, Kutztown puts up 75.4 points. The Marauder defense, however, is something the Golden Bears will have to learn to break. MU registers 12.8 steals per game--almost twice as many as Kutztown--and limits its opponents to a .346 shooting percentage from the floor.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
· Kutztown snapped a two-game skid when it defeated East Stroudsburg 69-52 Saturday afternoon. The Golden Bears evened their conference record at 2-2 after falling to Bloomsburg and West Chester.
· In the Golden Bears' win over ESU, senior forward Melissa McQuade became Kutztown's all-time leading scorer. McQuade, who is the squad's current leading scorer with 16.8 points per game, has recorded 1,436 points in her career. During Kutztown's loss to West Chester on Jan. 19, McQuade became the all-time leader in rebounds with 849 in her career.
· Kutztown looks to improve its away record as the club gears up for back-to-back road contests this week. The Golden Bears are just 2-5 this season when on the road but are 7-2 on their home court. A club well known for being tough to beat on its own court, Millersville has dropped just one of its 10 home games this season. Kutztown, like many teams, has struggled in Pucillo Gymnasium. The Golden Bears hold an overall record of just 4-27 at MU.
