Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville women's swim team notched its second victory in as many days when it downed visiting Division III Bridgeport 117-80 Saturday afternoon in Pucillo Natatorium. Millersville tallied 22 top-three finishes on the day as the club improved its overall dual meet record to 7-1.
It was a day of firsts for several Millersville swimmers competing in events they previously had not.
The 200-yard medley relay team of
Christine Neville,
Arielle Walbert,
Katie Bentley and
Sarah Bernhardt claimed first place in the event with a time of 2:03.61. Millersville's second relay squad, comprised of
Amie Mowery,
Samantha Strickler,
Courtney Wallace and
Victoria DeTample, followed in second place.
Katelyn Brenner and
Amy Leiphart swam neck-in-neck times for second and third places, respectively, in the 1,000-yard freestyle. Brenner touched the wall in 12:13.66 and Leiphart finished close behind in 12:13.79.
MU swept the top-three spots in the 200 free. Strickler and Castello, who had yet to swim the event yet this season, landed first and second with times of 2:10.01 and 2:14.37. Neville finished third in 2:17.27.
Mowery picked up second in the 50-yard free—the first time she swam the event—with a time of 26.28 seconds.
Adriana Rodriguez swam a time of 27.75 seconds for a third-place finish.
Amanda Thomas swam the 200 individual medley for the first time this season and notched first place with a time of 2:26.43. Millersville swept the top three spots for the second time on the day in the 200 butterfly. Bernhardt won the event, touching the wall in 2:23.55.
Colleen Wolgast picked up second with a time of 2:36.74 and Bentley finished third in 2:37.01.
Thomas won the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:24.23 and
Sara Keenan finished third in 2:34.85. MU then swept the 500 free through Walbert, Rodriguez and Wallace. Walbert claimed top honors with a time of 5:35.41, followed by Rodriguez in 5:50.19 and Wallace in 6:01.77.
Millersville travels to PSAC foe East Stroudsburg for a dual meet on Saturday, Jan. 29. Action is set to begin at 1 p.m.
