Marauders Extend Home Win Streak Versus Cheyney

Box Score

Millersville, Pa. –
The No. 23 Millersville women's basketball team limited Cheyney to a 25.9 shooting percentage while four Marauders scored in double figures and the home squad rolled over the visiting Wolves 57-41 Wednesday evening in Pucillo Gymnasium. Millersville picked up its second-straight conference win while Cheyney (4-11, 0-3) remains winless in the PSAC East.

Juniors Gabrielle Styles and Sophia Waters each knocked down 11 points to pace the Marauders (12-3, 2-1). Despite playing less than 20 minutes apiece, sophomores Mashira Newman and Aurielle Mosley scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Millersville exchanged buckets with Cheney—which consisted of four ties and four lead changes—up until the 8:52 mark in the first half. The Marauders took over, however, with a rebound and put back by Newman and never surrendered the lead for the remainder of action.

The Wolvers were hindered by a first-period shooting performance of 6-of-27 from the floor which allowed Millersville to take over. The Marauders went on a 17-point unanswered run to bring the half to an end. MU doubled Cheyney's score of 14 heading into halftime.

Cheyney committed 20 fouls throughout the game, essentially handing the Marauders 18 of their points. Mary Fleig's club shot a season-high 78.3 percent from the charity stripe where it knocked down 18 of 23 attempts.

Overall Millersville forced 27 Wolf turnovers and nabbed 15 steals. Sophomore Carrie Sheffey scored seven points and pulled down a career-high seven rebounds. Sheffey also registered the Marauders' lone 3-pointer.

Every player grabbed a rebound for Millersville and Mosley collected a team-leading eight on the night. Senior Domonique Stroman played a solid game consisting of six points, seven rebounds and three steals.

Millersville looks to avenge PSAC East foe West Chester on Saturday afternoon in Pucillo Gymnasium. The last time the Marauders and the Golden Rams faced off, the visitors came away with an 83-77 double overtime victory in the conference semifinals. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
