Marauders Fall to Kutztown, 154-103

The Millersville women's swim team picked up six first-place and 13 top-three finishes but were ultimately edged by PSAC East foe Kutztown 154-103 Saturday afternoon in Pucillo Natatorium. The Marauders dropped their first dual meet of the season and fall to 5-1 overall.

Kicking things off, Millersville claimed second place in the 400-yard medley relay. The squad, comprised of Arielle Walbert, Amie Mowery, Sarah Bernhardt and Amanda Thomas, finished with a time of 4:10.38, just 1.12 seconds behind first-place Kutztown.

Victoria DeTample finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle clocking in at 2:09.28. Following DeTample in fifth and sixth were Hayley Lynott and Colleen Wolgast in 2:14.72 and 2:20.03, respectively.

Walbert shaved two seconds off of her previous personal best and won the 100-yard backstroke in a new season-best time of 1:02.65 seconds. Walbert also finished second in the 50 backstroke with a season-best time of 29.94 seconds, just .82 seconds behind Allison Sheely from Kutztown.

The Marauders swept the top-three spots in the 200 individual medley with Walbert, Mowery and Samantha Strickler finishing first through third, respectively. Walbert clocked in at 2:20.64 followed by Mowery in 2:27.89 and Strickler with a time of 2:30.36.

Mowery was the top Marauder finisher in the 50 breaststroke, touching the wall in 33.81 seconds for a fourth-place finish. In the 50 freestyle, Amanda Thomas claimed third with a time of 26.86 seconds. Just .77 seconds separated the top-three finishers in the race.

Competing in her first 50-yard butterfly of the season, Bernhardt won the event with a team-best time of 27.73 seconds. Katie Bentley finished fifth in 30.80 seconds.

Wrapping up the day's events, Millersville took first and second in the 400 free relay. The team of DeTample, Courtney Wallace, Adriana Rodriguez and Rebecca Anderson claimed first with a time of 4:02.85. Laura Castello, Lauren Puglia, Amy Leiphart and Katelyn Brenner swam a time of 4:23.68 for a second-place finish.

Millersville travels to York for a dual meet on Friday, Jan. 21. The meet is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
