Millersville

Men's Soccer

Delay Doesn't Deter Marauders

Box Score

Millersville, Pa. – Senior Kyle Loughlin found the back of the net twice and the Millersville men's soccer team got back on track with a 4-0 victory against Bloomsburg in a key Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference match at Chryst Field on Wednesday night.

The mid-week clash rekindled a fire from one of last season's PSAC Semifinal games. The get together had to be pushed back nearly an hour, however, as a line of severe thunderstorms rolled through the Millersville area. Once things got under way, Bloomsburg (2-3-1, 1-1-1 PSAC) neutralized the Marauders (4-1-1, 2-1 PSAC) for much of the first half. Loughlin changed that when he broke through with just under 10 minutes remaining in the opening period. Andrew Dukes chipped a ball ahead to Loughlin, who was able to gather it and then beat Huskies' keeper Bernie Roell to the lower left corner of the net.

Applied pressure was a constant for Millersville, which took nine first-half shots against Bloomsburg's two. That pressure would continue in the second half and pay early dividends. Loughlin rushed down the right wing before crossing a pass to an unmarked Justin Keefer. Keefer slid the ball past Roell for his first collegiate marker and a 2-0 lead.

Keefer's goal started Millersville's onslaught. The Marauders would score twice more in the next 7:54 to open up a 4-0 advantage.

Shane Seabrook got on the board for the first time since the final game of 2008 at 59:07. Seabrook collected the rebound of an Eric Pepper shot and put it into an open left side of the net.

Loughlin would conclude the scoring 3:14 later when he found an Aaron Roland rebound and banged it home. The two goals were Loughlin's first since returning to the lineup. He was nicked up and missed a pair of games, but his four point night on Wednesday moves him back into second on the team in scoring.

Millersville's win against Bloomsburg was its eighth straight in the series. The last Huskies win in the series came back on Oct. 18, 2006. The Black and Gold also continued to perform well at home. The team has run off a 17-game unbeaten streak (15-0-2) dating back to 2008.

Millersville's offensive firepower culminated in the home squad outshooting Bloomsburg 17-7. The Marauders also held a 7-3 edge in corner kicks. Keeper Matt Langione earned his 46th career victory, adding to the school record he's already captured. He did not have to record a save in doing so, however. Senior Lucas Stacey came on in relief of the starter with 12:40 remaining and made two saves in his 2010 debut.

Three straight away games now await the Marauders. They will travel to East Stroudsburg on Saturday night for a huge conference match against the Warriors at 5:30 p.m. Millersville returns to Chryst Field on Saturday, Oct. 9, when it takes on West Virginia Wesleyan (7 p.m.) in non-conference action.
