West Lafayette, Ohio - The Millersville men's golf team got a glimpse of its regional competition for the year at the three-day Powerade Atlantic Region Invitational. The tournament--held at River Green Golf Course--concluded Tuesday with Millersville placing seventh in a 14-team field.
The Marauders qualified for the NCAA regional, and while they finished seventh this weekend, they were just six shots out of fourth place. Millersville close at 51-over-par, two behind West Liberty and four in front of Charleston. Clarion and Indiana (Pa.) tied for the team title at 4-under-par.
Shane Henry, who finished as the low scorer in the team's first tournament, finished as the team's top performer again. He placed in a tie for 26th at 12-over-par. His best round was his 1-over-par 73 in the second.
Brian Cooper was in solid position after opening rounds of 74 and 76, but he faltered to an 8-over-par 80 in the third round, finishing 29th. Senior Nick Magenta did just the opposite. His first two rounds placed him at 14-over-par, but he turned in a 2-over-par 74 in the third round to finish the tournament in at 16-over and in 36th place.
Sophomore Matt Dudas was at 8-over-par following the first two rounds but slipped into 42nd after a third round 82. Chris Fieger rounded out the team's top five with a 24-over tournament and 51st-place finish.
Millersville travels to the Vulcan Invitational on Oct. 3-4.
