
Marauders Drop Two Close Matches in Mount Olive Tournament

Mount Olive, N.C. – The Millersville women's volleyball team dropped two matches at the Mount Olive Tournament Friday falling to Francis Marion 3-0 and Mount Olive 3-2. It was the team's first losses of the season.
The Marauders (3-2) were defeated in each set by only a matter of points, taking two sets into extra points.
The Black and Gold faced Francis Marion (5-1) in its first competition of the day and came up short by scores of 25-23, 25-22, 27-25. The two clubs exchanged points throughout the entire match, but the Patriots ended up victorious without conceding a set.
Millersville was led by Rebecca Roman with seven kills. Alyssa Ott added six kills and a match-high three service aces. Jessica Franz recorded 28 assists for the Marauders, and Katie Galuska collected a career-high 23 digs.
Later in the afternoon Millersville took on host Mount Olive (1-4) and was ultimately edged by the Trojans by scores of 25-20, 28-30, 25-18, 21-25, 11-15.
The Marauders quickly took control and won the first set, but Mount Olive countered in the second to even the score. The squads went tally-for-tally taking set two into extra points.
Holding the advantage yet again, Millersville glided to a third-set victory by seven points. The Trojans, however, rallied and went on to win the next two sets by four points apiece and secured the match.
Allison Huss led a balanced Marauder attack with 10 kills. Frantz had 32 assists and three aces for the club. Defensively, Galuska had a match-high 19 digs, while Roman recorded five blocks and Jesse Miller added four blocks.
Box scores for the matches are not immediately available.
Tournament action continues Saturday morning when the Marauders face Fairmont State at 8 a.m., followed by a match-up with Newberry at noon. Live video is available by clicking here.
