Shepherdstown, W.Va. - Junior Nick Magenta placed fourth, and sophomore Brian Cooper turned in his fourth-straight top-20 finish, leading the Millersville men's golf team to third place at the Shepherd Memorial Tournament.
At 11-over-par, Magenta claimed his highest finish since winning the Gannon Invitational on Oct. 12. He rallied from a 7-over-par first round with a 4-over-par second round. He finished five shots behind medalist Tyler Bidwell of Mercyhurst.
Scoring was high on the difficult par-71 Cress Creek Country Club. Bidwell's even-par second round was the best single round score of the tournament by three strokes. He lifted Mercyhurst to the team title. Millersville finished 16 shots behind Mercyhurst.
Cooper, who has placed in the top 25 in 10 of 11 events this year, placed 10th at 19-over-par. Dan Brown and Shane Henry rounded out the scoring at 26-over and tied for 13th.
Tuesday's tournament was the last of the 2009-10 regular season. Millersville, which stood eighth in the most recent NCAA Division II Atlantic Region ranking, will find out if it qualifies for the NCAA super regional on Thursday.
