Box Score
Millersville, Pa. - The Millersville baseball team rolled to a 10-4 non-conference win over Wilmington Tuesday afternoon, snapping a six-game slide and building some momentum toward the season-ending series with Kutztown.
The Marauders (20-23) entered Tuesday's game mired in an offensive slump with just 12 runs scored in the previous six games. Millersville put an end to those woes, though, totaling eight hits and drawing nine walks, frustrating Wilmington's (22-12) pitchers with patience.
Ryan McCormick and
Jeff Heisey both tallied a pair of hits and extended their respective hitting streaks to four games. Heisey went 2-for-3, giving him seven hits in his last 11 at bats. He also scored three runs. McCormick's three RBIs came on a triple and helped the Marauders to a five-run eighth inning.
While Wilmington struck first with two runs in the top of the third, Millersville immediately tied the game in the bottom of the inning.
Corey Phelan provided an RBI groundout, and McCormick scampered home for the first of three runs the Marauders scored on wild pitches.
Kent Gerdes and Heisey each drove in runs with singles and Heisey scored on a wild pitch in the fourth to put the Marauders in front for good.
Jason S. Long worked through four innings, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks.
Jason E. Long (1-3) entered in the fifth and gave up one run in two innings. Wilmington also picked up one more run in the seventh off of Kyle Belanchick, but Marauder relievers
Andrew Hunt and
Walter Bishop threw scoreless innings to end the game. Millersville's pitchers showed resolve throughout the game, stranding 12 Wildcat runners on base.
Wilmington starter Mike Goodwin (0-1) exited after surrendering five runs in four innings, and Nick Galinskie contributed three shutout innings. Millersville hammered the Wildcats' bullpen in the eighth, turning a one-run game into a six-run blowout. Millersville sent 10 batters to the plate and totaled five runs on just two hits.
Millersville now turns its attention to the final regular season series against nationally-ranked Kutztown. The Marauders, currently one game behind East Stroudsburg for the final PSAC Tournament berth from the Eastern Division must win one more game than ESU over the final weekend. The Marauders travel to Kutztown on Friday for a 1 p.m. start. Kutztown visits the Millersville University Baseball Stadium on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
