Marauders Make History with Third-Straight Shutout

Box Score

Williamston, N.C. -
The Millersville baseball team completed a three-game series sweep and made history with its third-straight shutout of Salem International Sunday afternoon with an 11-0 victory.

The Marauders (3-4) took the three weekend games by a combined 38-0. Since game-by-game results started being tracked at Millersville in 1957, no team had recorded three-straight shutouts before this weekend. The last time a Millersville team posted two shutouts in a row was 2001.

Redshirt junior Derek Kline picked up where Forrest Mengle and Ryan Stauffer left off yesterday. He hurled six shutout innings--allowing five hits--for his first win of the season. He also fanned five and walked just one. Kyle Belanchick and Michael McMonagle--working out of the bullpen--did the rest, pitching three more scoreless innings and allowing just two base runners.

Junior Corey Phelan led Millersville at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance. He was also one of five Marauders to steal a base. Adam Boyd, who led the team with two steals, went 2-for-3 with three runs. Chris Edgar also delivered two hits and an RBI. Freshman Carlos Medina# plated three runs.

Millersville travels to Chowan on March 6 for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
