Marauders Take Care of Bowie State in Final Minutes

Box Score

West Chester, Pa. –
Down eight points with less than nine minutes to play, the No. 11 Millersville women's basketball team was facing its second defeat in three days. Unwilling to suffer its second-straight loss the Marauders showed tenacity and powered back, out-scoring Bowie State 19-2 in the remaining minutes to nab a 64-55 victory Saturday afternoon.

The win marks Millersville's (5-1) 10th-straight victory at the Carol Eckman Memorial Classic hosted by West Chester.

Bowie State (2-2) led for the majority of the contest until the Marauders went on a scoring streak that could not be countered. Sitting in an eight-point hole, Millersville registered the next 10 of 12 points over a six minute span to knot the score at 55-55.

Mashira Newman, doing what she's best known for, triggered the run by sinking a jumper and knocking down two free throws on the next possession after she was fouled. MU seized the lead with 2:09 showing on the clock when Aurielle Mosley powered her way to the basket for a layup.

Mosley stole the ball on the very next play. With the Lady Bulldogs in the double bonus, Newman went to the charity stripe and hit two more free throws. Bowie State called a time out with 1:50 remaining in action but the club could not find an answer for Millersville's run.

Leola Pinkney secured the win for the Marauders with a jumper and a foul shot with less than 10 seconds showing on the clock.

The Marauders continue action at West Chester tomorrow with a non-conference match up with Lincoln (Pa.). Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.
