Box Score

Millersville, Pa. - It didn't take long for Millersville's young bloods to make an impact. Freshman Mike Holley recorded 19 points and five assists, and junior newcomer Demond Vance added 15 as the Marauders defeated visiting Lock Haven 77-60 Wednesday evening for their fourth-straight season-opening victory.

Holley hit 2-of-3 from 3-point range and 7-of-9 from the line in his sterling debut. He became the first freshman in Fred Thompson's 13-year tenure to lead the team in scoring in a season opener. Vance scored 10 of his 15 in the second half and was an efficient 6-of-9 from the floor.

Senior Bernard Brown, returning to the hardwood of Pucillo Gynasium for the first time in two seasons, showed no rust at all. He quickly returned to form as an inside intimidator, matching a career-high with five blocked shots, scoring 10 points and grabbing seven rebounds.

Millersville (1-0) jumped on Lock Haven (0-3) quickly and the outcome was never in doubt. Mike Seibert canned a deep 3-pointer on Millersville's second possession, igniting a 7-0 Millersville run. The Marauders' lead climbed to as many as 19 in the first half, and they coasted into halftime with a 39-24 edge.

Early in the second frame, Lock Haven slashed Millersville's lead to 46-37 on a 3-pointer from Eli Hanna, but Seibert answered with a triple of his own, and Vance scored seven of Millersville's next nine points to build the lead to 20--the largest of the game.

The Marauders shot 47.4 percent from the field in the second half and made Lock Haven pay at the free throw line, hitting 30-of-37 free throws. The Marauders also out-rebounded the Bald Eagles 46-28 and scored 18 second chance points to Lock Haven's four.

Rob Wyley led Millersville with a career-high 11 rebounds. Jim Kelleher also added some punch of the bench, scoring nine points by hitting 3-of-4 threes in 11 minutes of play.

Millersville has little time to rest. Ashland invades Pucillo Gymnasium Saturday evening at 6 p.m.
