Philadelphia, Pa. – Freshman
Andrew Dukes scored two goals including the game-winner late in regulation as the Marauders secured a 3-2 victory over the Rams of Philadelphia University this afternoon.
With the score tied and the game headed toward overtime, Dukes found the back of the net for the second time off of an
Eric Pepper assist to give the Marauders the 3-2 lead with under four minutes to play.
It was Dukes' second multi-goal game of the season, and he has now scored four of his team-leading eight goals in the past three games. He also scored a hat trick earlier in the season against Lock Haven.
As the result would suggest, it was an even match between the Marauders (6-2-1, 2-2-0 PSAC) and the Rams (6-4, 5-1 CACC) throughout. Both goalkeepers were fired upon seven times in the first. Philadelphia's Alex Heston recorded five saves and Millersville's Matt Langione stopped three.
The Rams found the back of the net first--just 1:40 into the game--with Travis Lobb's first goal of the season. It did not take long for the Marauders to answer back, though, as by Dukes scored an unassisted goal--his seventh of the season--at 11:41. The score lasted to the half.
Action in the second period started quickly as well with both sides scoring in the first five minutes. It was the Rams that scored first on an unassisted goal from Mark Holman. Millersville needed just 25 seconds to return the favor with an unassisted score from junior Ethan Daubert. The score remained knotted at 2-2 until Dukes' game-winner.
Langione finished the afternoon with a stellar nine saves to help the Marauders to their sixth win of the season.
Millersville will try an extend their two-game winning streak on Saturday, Oct. 9 against W.Va. Wesleyan at Chryst Field at Biemsderfer Stadium.
